Acupuncture works by disrupting what some refer to as the ‘chronic pain cycle’. This cycle refers to the body’s response to pain and how it can become a self-feeding loop. Acupuncture has a regulating effect on the body and has been shown to be effective in managing a large variety of musculoskeletal pain. Supporting a state of balance, or homeostasis, in the body, acupuncture has the unique ability to both up-regulate as well as down-regulate systems in the body. By optimizing the functioning in the body, it allows for more efficient healing and decreases pain level and recovery time after surgery or injury. This action can help patients decrease the amount of pain medications patients use which also lowers the negative side effects associated with them.

CBD, or cannabidiol, is growing in popularity and has been found to promote health in a wide variety of ways, including pain relief and neuroprotective properties. CBD is a chemical that is both naturally occurring in the body (also known as endocannabidiol) as well as in certain plants (also known as 'phytocannabidiol). Like acupuncture, it has the special ability to both stimulate or suppress certain pathways to bring the body back to healthy levels. CBD is a naturally occurring compound and is often found with other compounds like tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC). Unlike THC, CBD does not have psychoactive properties and is a great alternative for those seeking the many therapeutic properties without the mind-altering chemicals. There are many CBD/THC products as well as CBD isolates on the market today, so it is imperative to find a reputable source who have all the appropriate test results to verify the quality and authenticity of their products.

Acupuncture and CBD work with the Endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is responsible for neuromodulation and regulating many processes in the body including Central Nervous System (CNS) development, inflammation and immune response. Many of the receptors are located in the brain suggesting certain psychological conditions can be positively impacted such as anxiety, although supportive research in this area is still developing.

Acupuncture and CBD work together to stimulate the same key pathways in the body to regain and maintains its ability to heal. Pain relief is just one of the plethora of ways these two can support your path to a healthier place.
